Cowboys Get More Disappointing News as Key Player Bolts

After trading Micah Parsons, the assumption around the NFL was that if the Dallas Cowboys were playing decent football, Jerry Jones would go out and make a trade to acquire a defensive player. Jones was even on record stating that if a trade presented itself, he’d consider it.

With the Cowboys being 3-3-1 and in second place in the NFC East, especially with the way Dak Prescott has been throwing the football around, it seems likely that the Cowboys will go out and make a deal.

However, when speaking on Tuesday, Jones didn’t confirm or continue his words about a trade.

“If there were a trade, it will be because it fits us,” Jones said in an appearance on 105.3 The Fan. “And to fit, it’s got to be a reason why the player would leave that we’re interested in going forward with, and it would have to fit us in terms of our plans on our roster, the financial and everything that goes with that.”

Will the Cowboys Make a Trade?

As Jones mentioned, the Dallas Cowboys must pursue a trade that makes sense. If there’s one thing the Cowboys have done wrong over the past few years, it’s been their inability to lock players up long-term.

Any trade could have an impact on that, especially with George Pickens’ contract situation, if they decide to go that route.

“Just because we played well, all of a sudden everybody thinks, boy, you’re in the hunt, so it’s time to go out and gather up all of this talent that’s waiting around out here on the trees to add to it now that we feel good that we can be more competitive,” Jones said. “That’s not realistic.

“What’s realistic is that if we do see an opportunity, we are in as good a shape as we’ve been in in years with (draft) picks, with financial, with our (salary) cap,” he added. “We’re in as good of shape as we’ve ever been if we see a way to improve our team with a player that makes sense today, this year, next year to entertain it and look at it.”

The Cowboys Need to Improve Their Defense

Among the options for the Dallas Cowboys to pursue, the biggest focus has to be on the defensive side of the football.

Of course, if the Cowboys could go out and get a decent player on the offensive side of the football, especially on the offensive line, considering all the injuries, it might not be the worst idea.

However, with this defense being as underperforming as it has been, and after moving on from Parsons, there’s a clear need to improve the unit.

That doesn’t mean the Cowboys should go out and trade multiple first-round picks and ruin everything they have in terms of draft assets, but if the right trade presents itself, as Jones touched on, it’s something he should consider, and it’ll likely be considered.

For now, however, the Cowboys must hope this defense doesn’t burn them.

They have a more manageable schedule coming up, with games against the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, and Las Vegas Raiders over the next three weeks, so hopefully, it won’t be too much of an issue.
