Rumors swirl linking Dallas Cowboys with star EDGE Maxx Crosby

Will the Dallas Cowboys make the biggest move of the NFL trade deadline?

Former ESPN analyst Trey Wingo reported today that, per sources, Dallas has made inquiries with the Las Vegas Raiders for superstar EDGE Maxx Crosby.

The Raiders currently sit near the bottom of the league standings with a 2-5 record. Meanwhile, the Cowboys, who are outside of the NFC playoffs, are still in the hunt with a 44-22 statement win over rival Washington.

While the Cowboys have a potent offense behind Dak Prescott, their defense has been unwatchable since trading Micah Parsons in the offseason, ranked dead last by Pro Football Focus after seven weeks. The team’s run defense grade is far and away the worst in the NFL, with the heavily injured Baltimore Ravens sitting a spot above them at 31st.

For the Cowboys, it would be a statement to their fans and players that they are not looking at this as the start of a rebuild or a lost season. Crosby, who has been in the upper echelon of EDGE players the last few seasons, would be an instant X-factor for a Dallas defense that desperately needs help in stopping the run. Crosby, per PFF, is the 12th-best EDGE this season in terms of playing against the run.

On the Raiders’ end, there is almost no salvaging their current state. After hiring Pete Carroll and investing in Geno Smith as their quarterback, they’ve flatlined not even halfway into the season. The Kansas City Chiefs embarrassed the Raiders this past Sunday, with Las Vegas managing only 30 offensive snaps throughout the game. Crosby, 28, is still young enough, but is a player who might not fit their timeline if they look to draft a quarterback in the upcoming draft to pair with Ashton Jeanty.

A deal could make sense between the two sides, with Dallas having hefty draft capital following the Parsons trade to Green Bay and Las Vegas looking towards the future. Crosby follows Dak Prescott and several other Cowboys players on Instagram. Still, there are no other confirmations or reports at the time linking the EDGE rusher to being on the market.
