With the Boston Red Sox potentially losing Trevor Story and/or Alex Bregman, they’re going to need to find a replacement, or a backup if both return due to their injury history.

Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes the Sox should go out and trade for Houston Astros utility man Mauricio Dubon, a Gold Glove winner who can play anywhere in the infield.

“Alex Bregman has already exercised his opt-out while Trevor Story’s decision is still pending. Even if Story returns, though, Boston’s 2026 infield is looking a bit over-dependent on the likes of Kristian Campbell, Triston Casas and Marcelo Mayer returning from injury/ineffectiveness in 2025. Adding an “anywhere” infielder should be in the plans. Meanwhile, Houston has arguably too many infielders now that Carlos Correa is back in the fold, so getting Dubón could be the way for Boston to go,” Miller wrote.

This past season, Dubon slashed .241/.289/.355/.644 with seven home runs and 33 RBI over 133 games. While he isn’t the biggest bat, he’s got a great glove and can play anywhere.

Plus, of the three players named, only Campbell is a right-hander. The Sox need more right-handed hitting, so getting another decent hitter couldn’t hurt.

Hopefully, the Sox can retain Bregman and Story. However, it shouldn’t stop them from checking about Dubon, as he would be a great backup utility man to pair with Romy Gonzalez.
