The Philadelphia Phillies are going to be a big team to watch this winter.
Philadelphia won 95 games in 2024 and clearly looks like it will be a contender in the National League for years to come. While this is the case, the Phillies were unable to get over the hump this season.
The Phillies were knocked out of the playoffs by the New York Mets and now are looking for ways to improve the team. The best free agent out there is clearly New York Yankees star Juan Soto and it has been reported that the Phillies will meet with him at some point.
While a move to Philadelphia should be considered unlikely, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman did say that Soto “likes” the Phillies.
“I wonder if Philly is the town for him, I think he likes the organization,” Heyman said. “He likes the team. They do spend. They do want to win. So I think they’re happy to do the meeting. Happy to consider it.”
Soto clearly has some connections to the Phillies with past teammates like Bryce Harper and Trea Turner calling Philadelphia home. The Phillies aren’t afraid to make a move and signing Soto certainly would be that.
A deal shouldn’t be considered likely just because the competition is stiff and it has been reported that a deal could be around $600 million. But, it is a fun thought and nothing can be ruled out until he signs on the dotted line elsewhere.
