The expectation is that Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs will play in Week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals despite drawing a questionable tag, but a specific roster move on Saturday is a cause for concern.

It has been a strange week for Jacobs, who popped up on the injury report to start the week with an illness and was limited on Wednesday and Thursday as a result.

Jacobs was a full participant on Friday, but he also had a calf issue added along with the illness and is listed as questionable.

Based on the full Friday practice, it was assumed Jacobs is going to play on Sunday. However, the Packers made a roster move on Saturday that has led to at least some doubt about his ability to play.

According to the Packers, they are elevating running back Pierre Strong Jr. from the practice squad for Week 7.

That’s odd because the Packers have two other healthy running backs on their roster in Chris Brooks and Emanuel Wilson. So, if Strong is active, the Packers will have four running backs on gameday, which is overkill.

This could mean that Jacobs is actually in danger of sitting out and the Packers are bringing up Strong just in case, although there hasn’t been any indication that’s the case other than Jacobs’ questionable status.

Nevertheless, it’s something to keep an eye on. Green Bay will confirm Jacobs’ status an hour and a half before kickoff on Sunday, when the team drops its inactives list.

If Jacobs doesn’t play, Green Bay will likely give the reins of the offense to Wilson, who has operated as the clear No. 2 back behind Jacobs all season.
