Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer believes the Cubs should look for some more pitching, as he sees them as a top landing spot for a former Cy Young candidate, San Diego Padres ace Michael King.

Regardless, Chicago’s 2025 rotation was not as solid as its overall 3.83 ERA indicates…So even if Kyle Tucker headlines are likely to dominate the Cubs’ offseason, it’s arguably the rotation that should take priority. They can afford to go after Dylan Cease or Framber Valdez, but King has a certain appeal that both of them don’t,” Rymer wrote.

While King was injured for most of it, he still put up a 3.44 ERA with a record of 5-3, 76 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.220 over 15 games this season. The season before, his Cy Young candidate year, he had a 2.95 ERA with a record of 13-9, along with 201 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.192.

With the overall rotation being in question in terms of strength, getting a guy like King would definitely be the answer. With him, Shota Imanaga, and Matthew Boyd being the front-end of the rotation, it would definitely give the Cubs arguably the best rotation in the NL Central, whereas this year they were a solid No. 2 to the Brewers.

Hopefully, the Cubs realize this and try and pick up the phone to see if they can get King to play in the Friendly Confines for the next few seasons.
