As injuries hit hard, we break down why the Kansas City Chiefs may consider trading for Dontayvion Wicks to strengthen their offense.
The Green Bay Packers are one team that could be busy at this year’s NFL Trade Deadline.
After acquiring Micah Parsons in a blockbuster deal with the Dallas Cowboys, the Packers have Super Bowl hopes, and there could be more moves coming for Green Bay.
On the other hand, teams are reportedly calling the Packers to gauge the availability of some of their wide receivers.
One team that has recently checked in on the WR room is the New York Giants, according to 247Sports Packers writer Easton Butler.
“Just gonna say this before Rickey does, but the Giants have called the Packers about WRs Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks recently. (Also several other teams about their WRs, including Washington for McLaurin and the Dolphins for Waddle,” Butler wrote.
Butler also added that “at least” five teams have called about Doubs over the past couple of weeks, so the phones appear to be ringing in Green Bay.
Packers Have Been Hesitant to Trade Doubs
In September, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Packers are not planning to trade Doubs, at least right now.
According to Fowler, the Packers “have shown no interest in trading him, and my sense is they have more interest in potentially extending him.”
Moreover, there is a chance that the Packers will give him a contract extension, which would pair Christian Watson and Matthew Golden with Doubs in a talented WR room.
Doubs has 18 receptions and 234 yards with four scores this season, and he is second behind tight end Tucker Kraft in yards but first in touchdowns and tied for first with Kraft in receptions.
Watson, who is recovering from a torn ACL, has returned to practice but signed a one-year extension in the offseason, so his trade value is going to be scattered given his injury.
Why Moving Dontavyion Wicks Makes Sense
Wicks was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he has struggled to find a consistent role in Green Bay.
In 2025, he has 12 receptions for 129 yards, although he is working his way back from an ankle injury he suffered in Week 6.
Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reported that Wicks is practicing on Wednesday while also mentioning that Watson could make his season debut.
The emergence of rookie Matthew Golden could also help the Packers feel a bit easier about moving on from Wicks. Golden, the Packers’ first-round pick this past year, has 14 receptions for 212 yards and a score, but he has 12 catches in the past three games after just two receptions in the first two games of the season.
At some point, the Packers have to make some decisions with the deep WR room, and maybe Wicks is the guy to move on from with the strong play of Doubs and Golden, not to mention Watsn set to return.
The Giants’ injury to Malik Nabers also left some holes in the WR room, so the two teams could be solid trade partners ahead of the deadline, which is on November 4 at 4 pm ET.
