The Boston Red Sox are going into this offseason with two acquisition goals in mind: finding another right-handed slugger and another ace-level starting pitcher. While they could go out and sign someone with the money they saved by trading Rafael Devers, their superfluous amount of stud outfielders could lead to a trade as well.

MLB analyst Nick Diamond linked the Sox to a potential trade partner, in an NL Central playoff team: the Cincinnati Reds. While he believes they could get pitching from the Reds, the Sox may be more interested in a hitter.

“I’ve seen a lot of people mention the Cincinnati Reds as a potential trade partner for either Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu because of their abundance of pitching depth. That’s true, but the Reds also have a right-handed bat who might interest the Red Sox in Noelvi Marte. At the deadline, the Reds acquired Ke’Bryan Hayes to take over third base, while they already have De La Cruz, McLain, and Encarnacion-Strand/Steer for the infield. The Reds could be a blockbuster opportunity, especially if the Sox decide to move on from Alex Bregman,” Diamond posted.

Either pitching or hitting, the Sox and Reds could make a deal. The Sox could acquire a pitcher like Andrew Abbott or opt for Marte, and then shift him to first base if Bregman re-signs.

Hopefully, the Red Sox will find a partner, whether it be the Reds or someone else, and finally acquire the last pieces they need to complete the puzzle.
