A spot on the practice squad in Foxborough has opened through a series of moves.
The New England Patriots announced the signing of tight end Marshall Lang on Tuesday afternoon. In turn, tight end Gee Scott Jr. and defensive back Tyron Herring were both released from a group that stood at its 17-man limit.
Lang, 23, had been among a trio of tight ends hosted for workouts at Gillette Stadium during the first week of September. The 6-foot-4, 252-pound Northwestern product signed with the Seattle Seahawks as a rookie free agent following the 2025 NFL draft. He was waived at the league’s 53-man roster deadline in August. Lang’s Wildcats career spanned 52 games, including 21 starts, dating back to 2020. It featured 48 receptions for 491 yards and four touchdowns.
Scott, 24, landed with the Patriots as part of the organization’s undrafted class in May. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound tight end out of Ohio State was waived at the cutdown deadline. After being added and subtracted from the initial practice squad in August, he was re-signed midway through September. A convert from the wide receiver room, Scott appeared in 52 games with 16 starts while a member of the Buckeyes. The national champion’s tenure brought 47 receptions for 393 yards and three touchdowns.
Herring, 24, visited New England for a workout following his rookie preseason and was signed to the practice squad later in September. The 6-foot-1, 201-pound cornerback entered the league with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in the spring. After spending four years at Dartmouth, Herring finished his collegiate run at Delaware. The former Blue Hens captain totaled 72 tackles, four interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery between 2023 and 2024. He earned an invitation to the East-West Shrine Bowl as a graduate student.
Head coach Mike Vrabel’s side moves forward with one open spot on the active roster as well as one open spot on the practice squad.
