The Red Sox are expected to retain most of their coaches heading into the 2026 season, but there will be at least one change to Alex Cora’s staff.

Assistant hitting coach Ben Rosenthal, who has been with the Red Sox for the last four seasons, will not return, sources said Monday. As of now, that’s expected to be the most notable change. Boston is working through finalizing contracts with some coaches but outside of Rosenthal, the entire group is expected back in the same roles as they had in 2025, as WEEI’s Rob Bradford reported Sunday.

Bench coach Ramón Vázquez, pitching coach Andrew Bailey, hitting coach Pete Fatse, first base coach José Flores, third base coach Kyle Hudson, bullpen coach Chris Holt, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson and catching instructor Parker Guinn are expected to return in the same roles, as is Jason Varitek, who in 2025 took on a new title as “game planning and run prevention coach.” Varitek’s three-year contract expired after the season but is role isn’t expected to change. At this point, if another coach departs Cora’s staff, it’ll be because another team hires someone away in a bigger role. There are currently eight managerial vacancies across the game; it’s unclear if any Red Sox coaches are being considered for any of them.

Rosenthal, 46, is a former Cardinals minor leaguer who spent five years in the Astros system as a minor league hitting coach from 2017 to 2021 before being hired by Boston in December 2021.
