The Dallas Cowboys have ruled out wide receiver CeeDee Lamb for the Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers, but can Dallas expect Lamb back in Week 7?
Lamb is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and has yet to practice since coming down with the injury. He was absent for all three practice sessions this week.
The Cowboys star was expected to be sidelined three to four weeks. With Lamb now having missed three games, there is a possibility he returns for next week’s game versus the Washington Commanders.
Here’s what we know about Lamb’s status moving forward.
Will CeeDee Lamb return in Week 7?
We don’t have any concrete information about Lamb returning in Week 7, but there are signs he’s moving in the right direction toward being ready.
While Lamb didn’t practice this week, he did get work in on a side field for the first time since his injury, which is a sign of progress.
ESPN’s Todd Archer noted that Lamb was using resistance bands and he believes there’s a chance the former first-round pick can return in Week 7.
“CeeDee Lamb continues to make progress from his high left ankle sprain,” Archer wrote on Oct. 9. “Just my guess: don’t rule him out for next week’s game vs. Washington.”
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero adds that Lamb “has a chance” to return in Week 7, but one source told Pelissero that it’s “50/50” and will depend on his practice participation.
The fact that the Cowboys didn’t place Lamb on injured reserve means they believe he won’t miss a fourth game.
Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones said last week that Lamb was one of the players expected back in the next two weeks, so that tracks with a possible Week 7 return.
The Cowboys have been getting by OK without Lamb thanks to contributions from guys like George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy, Jalen Tolbert and Jake Ferguson, but it goes without saying the offense is better with its No. 1 receiver on the field.
