Yankees’ owner indirectly called out by son of legendary Yankees All-Star

The New York Yankees’ season ended in a disappointing loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Division Series. Despite having a star-studded roster, the Yankees were unable to make it back to the World Series.

The Yankees have plenty of questions to answer this offseason, including what went wrong. Son of legendary Yankees All-Star Gary Sheffield, Gary Sheffield Jr., thinks Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman are to blame.

Sheffield Jr. thinks the team needs to fire both Cashman and Boone after this year’s elimination, but does not envision it happening. Hal Steinbrenner has stuck with Boone and Cashman together for eight seasons now and does not have a World Series to show for it.

“It’s time to press the button on your GM and manager but we all here know you won’t,” Sheffield Jr. wrote on X. “See you next year.”

Steinbrenner is the only one with the power to fire both the general manager and manager, so it’s very clear who Sheffield Jr. is talking to when he says he does not think the team will make the moves he thinks are necessary to win. Since 1913, no Yankees manager has been granted a fifth season without winning a World Series, until Boone.

The expectation in New York is always a championship. Sheffield Jr. thinks Cashman has not done a good enough job putting a team together, and that Boone has not made the right decisions with the team he has.
