San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch rejected the idea that Mac Jones’ impressive play taking over under center created any awkwardness in the quarterback room.

“A cool quality about Brock Purdy is he’s one of the most self-assured people in a very humble way,” Lynch said on KNBR, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “It’s hard to explain, but I think it’s one of the things that appealed to us.”

Jones sports an undefeated record as a starter in Kyle Shanahan’s offense, going 3-0, including an impressive primetime win over the Los Angeles Rams. Jones hasn’t been perfect, but he’s made pinpoint throws under pressure and played point-guard — all the Niners need in Shanahan’s offense.

In those three starts, Jones has thrown just one interception to six touchdowns. In two starts this season, Purdy has thrown four INTs with four TDs.

“I do wholeheartedly believe that Brock is nothing but happy for our team,” Lynch said. “He’s working his tail off to try to get back.”

Purdy (toe) has not participated in practice this week, an indicator that he probably will miss at least another game. Jones, who is also dealing with knee and oblique injuries, was limited in two sessions. The former first-round pick is in line to start again Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Todd Bowles’ aggressive defense.
