Travis Kelce is proud of his fiancée Taylor Swift’s music, but there’s one song he’d rather his father skip. The NFL tight end admitted he’s “terrified” for his dad, Ed Kelce, to hear “Wood,” one of the most talked-about tracks on Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Travis Kelce says he’s ‘terrified’ of his father listening to Taylor Swift’s song
Travis Kelce opened up about Taylor Swift’s cheeky “Wood” song that fans believe is about him. When his brother, Jason, asked whether their father had heard The Life of a Showgirl yet, Kelce quickly replied, “No.”
Jason joked that maybe they should have their dad listen live on the podcast, teasing, “Maybe that’s who we should get a live listen to.” Travis laughed and said, “Dude, I’m terrified.” The brothers burst into laughter at the thought of Ed Kelce hearing Swift sing about Travis’ “love being the key that opened my thighs.”
Jason couldn’t resist teasing further, asking his brother, “Do you feel cocky about the song ‘Wood’?” Kelce smiled and replied, “No. Any song that she references me in is very…” before Jason cut him off, saying, “That’s not just any song. This is a very specific you.”
“Wood” has quickly become one of the most talked-about tracks on The Life of a Showgirl for its playful lyrics. Swift sings, “Forgive me, it sounds cocky / He ah-matized me and opened my eyes / Redwood tree, it ain’t hard to see. His love was the key that opened my thighs.” In another line, she describes her lover’s energy as a “hard rock.” She sang, “Girls, I don’t need to catch the bouquet / To know a hard rock is on the way.”
While the lyrics have sent fans into a frenzy, Swift seems to be in on the joke. She revealed that her mom, Andrea Swift, has her own innocent interpretation of the song. “That’s the joy of the double entendre. That song, you could read that song for people and it just goes right over their head” (via SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up)
