The Milwaukee Brewers have elected to add two pitchers to their 40-man roster. This move ensures that both players are protected from the upcoming Rule-5 Draft. Joining the 40-man roster are right-handers Logan Henderson and Chad Patrick.
Milwaukee Brewers add Logan Henderson to the 40-man roster
Logan Henderson was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Brewers. He was the top available JuCo arm that year and after a slow start in the professional ranks his stock has shot upwards over the past two seasons.
The team’s current 11th ranked prospect made 18 starts in 2023 while pitching to a 2.75 ERA. Last year he climbed across three levels, ended in Triple-A, and pitched to a 3.32 ERA. On the mound his changeup grades out as his best pitch.
Milwaukee Brewers add Chad Patrick to the 40-man roster
Chad Patrick was acquired in November of 2023 when the Brewers traded Abraham Toro to the Oakland Athletics. In his first year with Milwaukee he ended up winning the pitcher’s triple crown in the minor leagues.
This entailed of leading the International League (Triple-A) in wins (14), ERA (2.90), and strikeouts (145). He also accumulated 136.1 innings pitched this year, had a 9.57 K:9, and a 1.09 WHIP.
Do any of the players that the Milwaukee Brewers left unprotected have a high likelihood of being selected in the 2024 Rule-5 Draft?
There are lots of players that were left unprotected by the Brewers, but notable players include pitchers Coleman Crow plus Shane Smith along with position players Wes Clarke and Ernesto Martinez Jr.
Crow began his comeback from Tommy John surgery during the Arizona Fall League, Smith had a breakout 2024 campaign but just got his feet wet in Triple-A at the end of the year, and Martinez Jr has not played above Doulbe-A. This makes Clarke the most likely potential Rule-5 Draft selection candidate. He has hit 47 home runs and accumulated 152 RBI over the past two seasons.
