The Dallas Cowboys signed running back Javonte Williams on a “prove it” type contract for a 1-year, $3 million dollar deal, and through five games, they look like they got the best steal of the offseason.
In a 37-22 win over the New York Jets in Week 5, Williams ran for a career-high 135 yards on just 16 carries to go with two touchdowns.
He leads the Cowboys with 447 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns and is averaging 5.0 yards per carry.
He is currently third in football in rushing only behind Jonathan Taylor and James Cook.
Ride The Wave
With four of the starting five offensive linemen out and no CeeDee Lamb against the Jets, the offense did not miss a beat.
Williams really broke this game open when he set up a touchdown right before half with a 66-yard run all the way down to the two-yard line.
At some point you just gotta admit it. Javonte Williams, RB1. #FFHappyHour @croucherJD @ConnorJRogers pic.twitter.com/dhfPz1bUYG

Miles Sanders is still banged up, but even when he gets back, I would not give him many snaps at all.
Ride Williams and sprinkle in Jaydon Blue a bit, and you have an above-average backfield.
Nobody thought this would work, and through the first five games, we have to give credit to not only Williams, but Brian Schottenheimer and Klayton Adams. They are making this work at the highest level to start the season.
I mean, let’s be real, nobody thought, after five weeks, Williams would be 1st in rushing yards in the NFC, 2nd in rushing yards in the NFL, 2nd in total touchdowns and 6th in total yards in the NFL.
If he can stay upright and not end up on the IR, I think with this offense the Cowboys have a legit chance to make the playoffs. This is not something I thought they would be able to accomplish when the year started.
Heck, I picked them to have a top 10 draft pick!

The Cowboys play the Panthers next week, and then the schedule heats up with the Commanders and the Broncos, but the way that the offense is rolling, I really do think that they could win maybe two out of the next three if not all three!
They get the Panthers and Broncos on the road, but they will beat the Panthers and the Commanders at home. Washington struggled to beat Cooper Rush a year ago, and we know how that story goes.
They should have CeeDee Lamb back by then and the offense will be even better.
