Major League Baseball won’t announce it’s end of the year award winners for the 2024 season until November, but news outlets across the sport have already begun announcing their selections. Most recently The Sporting News named Milwaukee Brewers general manager Matt Arnold as executive of the year and Pat Murphy as manager of the year.

The Sporting News has been handing out end of the year baseball awards since 1936.  In 2024 their winners were determined by acquiring votes from players, managers, and executives.  Votes were collected in mid-September.

Winning The Sporting News hardware for executive of the year was Matt Arnold.  Most projections did not have the Brewers repeating as division champions this year but Matt Arnold showed brilliance by getting contributors back in the Corbin Burnes trade, locking up Jackson Chourio before his MLB debut, signing free agent Rhys Hoskins, and by promoting Pat Murphy from bench coach to manager.

Among National League managers Pat Murphy was the one awarded manager of the year.  His only prior managing experience before this year at the big league level was on an interim basis.  Despite this he managed to get the Brewers playing winning baseball and focusing on “win tonight”.

MLB will also hand out executive of the year and manager of the year awards.  In year’s past this has come in the middle of November, so stay tuned to see if Matt Arnold and Pat Murphy win there as well.
