The Dallas Cowboys are playing their second straight game without wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in the Week 5 contest against the New York Jets.

It’s basically the third-straight game Lamb has missed after he exited the Week 3 contest early after sustaining what was later diagnosed as a high-ankle sprain.

Lamb did not show any signs that he’s on the comeback trail this week after he failed to turn in a single practice before the game versus the Jets.

Here’s a closer look at Lamb’s status and when he could be back.

Will CeeDee Lamb return next week?

It is unclear if Lamb will be back for the Week 6 contest against the Carolina Panthers, but all signs point to him sitting out again.

Along with the lack of practice participation, ESPN’s Todd Archer reported initially that Lamb might miss three to four weeks with his ankle issue.

“Pro Bowl wide receiver CeeDee Lamb could miss three to four weeks with a left high ankle sprain suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bears,” Archer wrote.

At this point, the earliest we should expect Lamb back is in Week 7, which will mark the fourth week since his injury. If Lamb returns on the highest end of the timeline reported by Archer, he won’t be back until Week 8.

But, also bear in mind that some high-ankle sprains can take upwards of six weeks, so a return in Week 9 or 10 isn’t out of the question, either.

CeeDee Lamb injury update

The good news is, Lamb was given a positive update from head coach Brian Schottenheimer during the week.

Schottenheimer revealed that Lamb is making progress in his rehab, although he did not offer more specific details about his potential return timeline.

“I think the window is getting smaller [for Lamb to return],” Schottenheimer said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Knowing Lamb’s competitive fire, he is almost certainly going to push to play in Week 6, even if he isn’t 100%. However, rest assured, the Cowboys’ medical staff will have the last say on whether or not he suits up and Dallas is going to protect their star player.

Right now, expect Lamb to miss another game in Week 6.
