🌿FROM STREETS TO SANCTUARY: Halia spends her final days surrounded by love and dignity, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and hope for all who meet her…ll

A call for help led us to a distressing scene where a dog lay near a dumpster, trapped in a heartbreaking situation. The dog, emaciated and barely alive, was abandoned amidst trash after being hit by a vehicle.

She had somehow dragged herself away from the street, but without the help she desperately needed, she lay there, paralyzed and starving, a haunting image of neglect.

It was evident that the dog had survived a traumatic accident, possibly leaving her unable to walk. Left to fend for herself, she had become a mere shadow of her former self.

Despite this, we were determined to help her, recalling how we had previously saved another dog in similar circumstances named Harris.

We named her Halia, which means “remembrance of a loved one,” honoring those who have suffered before her. Her eyes held a quiet dignity, hinting at her will to survive, and we dedicated ourselves to her care.

In the initial two days, Halia showed signs of hope. Her adrenaline allowed her to sit up briefly and eat small amounts of food, which we carefully managed to avoid refeeding syndrome due to her prolonged starvation.

It was a promising start, as it seemed she was slowly regaining her strength, and we hoped she would recover.

Unfortunately, on the third day, Halia’s condition deteriorated. She could no longer lift her head or keep food in her mouth, and her pale gums signaled her declining health.

Despite our best efforts, her strength was waning, and the light in her eyes was fading. We faced the painful reality that she might not survive.

Our focus shifted to ensuring Halia felt cherished and valued in her final days. We spoke softly to her, expressing our love and wishing we could do more. It was important that she departed this world feeling cared for.

Halia passed away peacefully, surrounded by the compassion and love we gave her. While we couldn’t save her life, we are grateful for the brief chance she had to experience kindness.

Her last moments were filled with warmth, and though she is gone, the memory of her dignity and courage remains with us.
