Patriots WR’s New Injury is Possible Blessing in Disguise

The New England Patriots are sitting at 1-6 and have the New York Jets coming into town. The Patriots seek to snap their six-game skid but haven’t been playing well lately.

Those struggles carried over to London, as they lost 32-16 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. While they have begun preparing for the divisional tilt on Sunday, rookie receiver Ja’Lynn Polk has been placed in concussion protocol.

Head coach Jerod Mayo revealed that Polk was in the concussion protocol on Monday morning. The Washington product suffered this injury in Week 7, and now his status for Sunday is in doubt. Polk notched 34 snaps in the loss to Jacksonville but didn’t record a catch.

He failed to reel in any of his three targets while also dropping a pass. The 22-year-old also slipped and fell on a two-point conversion play that could have made the contest a one-score game. Instead of taking accountability for his shaky play, Polk went on social media to express his displeasure.

The 2024 second-round pick was called out by Mayo for being in a mental funk. He recanted those statements but still struggled on the field.

You never want to see an injury take a player off the field but for Polk, this may help him in the long run. He hasn’t been able to turn things around on the field lately and has hit a wall. Not being able to practice and potentially be inactive may help him snap out of this rut. Watching the game from a different perspective could allow him to do things differently when he returns and be the player they expected him to be.
