Packers’ Micah Parsons apologizes to QB Jordan Love after defensive meltdown vs. Cowboys

The Green Bay Packers started the season off hot and were even considered one of the best teams in the NFL. However, after a loss to the Cleveland Browns and a tie with the Dallas Cowboys, those feelings may be changing. For Micah Parsons, Sunday was a must-win—but it was Jerry Jones who delivered the final word.

“It’s very simple: Dak was indispensable, in my mind … and Micah wasn’t,” Jones told the media. “It’s just numbers, it’s that easy. And that’s not personal at all. … The numbers just weren’t there with Micah.”

The game is already being considered a potential “Game of the Year” candidate, though the tie made it feel somewhat like a wasted effort. Afterward, Parsons was visibly upset, having entered the game determined to leave with a win.

“Micah Parsons got one thing he wanted in his return to AT&T Stadium: He sacked his former quarterback, Dak Prescott. The rest of it, however, left him unfulfilled after his current team, the Green Bay Packers, played his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, to a 40-40 tie on Sunday night,” ESPN’s Rob Demovsky and Todd Archer wrote.

Following the game, Parsons pulled quarterback Jordan Love aside to apologize for the defense’s inability to hold up its end.

“Micah Parsons said he pulled Jordan Love aside after game and apologized for defense not holding up its end, allowing 40 points. He said Love was exceptional, and giving up 40 points was inexcusable, something Packers defense needs to use bye week to ensure it never happens again,” Packers beat writer Ryan Wood wrote.

The game clearly meant something to Parsons, but he understands that allowing 40 points is unacceptable. He feels as though he let his quarterback down, and after a strong start to the season, the Packers are no longer playing up to their standard.

Parsons’ willingness to take responsibility for the defense’s poor performance shows the kind of leader he is. However, it will now be up to him to help get the Packers’ defense back on track after the bye week.
